The SoundBYTE – Focus on Malcolm Saville audio periodical is presented on audio CD and has been structured so you can learn more about Malcolm Saville, his books, his inspirations and the wider topics that encompass his work.

The CDs are presented in DVD-style packaging so each instalment will sit neatly on your bookshelf alongside your existing collection of books ready for when you want to listen again; in fact, from a distance, they even look like book spines!

SoundBYTE is being produced independently but with kind permission from the Estate of the late Malcolm Saville.  At present, it incorporates a set of five CDs and, whilst it may be viable for us to bring some further one-off CDs to you in the future, for the moment, there are no immediate plans to expand the series or to reprint the existing titles, once the remaining stock has been cleared.

It originates from New Zealand, about as far away from Malcolm Saville’s home shores as you can get which is a testament to the scale of his popularity, and comprises the adaptation of a talk that Bill Nagelkerke gave to a Continuing Education class on children’s series books, at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

The narrative is presented by Guy Hawley, a name many listeners will recognise as he is a Malcolm Saville expert in his own right.

Leonard Malcolm Saville (1901-1982) was a popular author who wrote over ninety books for children.  He was a contemporary of Enid Blyton and Richmal Crompton and is most commonly remembered for his Lone Pine adventure series.  Malcolm Saville wrote a mixture of fiction and non-fiction placing particular emphasis on real places, wildlife, mystery and family values; all these meant a great deal to him.

In 1994 a group of enthusiasts set up a Malcolm Saville Society which has now enrolled over 1,000 members - www.witchend.com.
